Grampians National Park – Mount Abrupt Sunset

Description

Sunset from the summit of Mount Abrupt (Mud-Dadjug), looking north across the Grampians (Gariwerd) toward Signal Peak and the distant ranges around Halls Gap. In the foreground, warm evening light catches the weathered sandstone outcrop and low heathland scrub, while the ridgelines fade into layered blues and purples beneath a soft, painterly sky of mauve and gold.

The Mount Abrupt hike is a rewarding out-and-back walk of roughly 6.5 km return, starting from the car park just off the Grampians Tourist Road near Dunkeld. Expect around two to three hours on the trail, with a steady climb of about 500 metres in elevation. The path begins gently through stringybark woodland before ascending a series of switchbacks and rocky steps, opening onto increasingly expansive views as you near the summit.
