Description
Around Nelson Falls you’re walking through some of the most picturesque cool-temperate rainforest I’ve ever seen. You may end up with more photos of the trees than the waterfall itself. The track follows the Nelson River under a dense canopy, where trunks and fallen logs are often carpeted in moss. The main trees you’ll notice are sassafras and myrtle (myrtle beech), with layers of ferns underneath—big, arching fronds right beside the path and smaller fern species filling every gap in the understory. It’s a short, gentle stroll just off the Lyell Highway through Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. A must do for anyone visiting Tassie.
