Ever since I saw photos of the spa pool in Karijini, I knew I wanted to try and shoot it half underwater and half above. This proved pretty difficult, as the rocks in the gorge are super slippery. They’re also aggressively angled so that a photographer (and her gear) constantly goes sliding down toward the river. I’m sure the behind the scenes of this image capture would have proved highly entertaining to any onlookers. I think it was worth it though! The Spa Pool in Karijini is the famous little circular pool tucked into Hamersley Gorge, formed where water has carved a narrow chute through the rock and drops into a rounded basin. It’s an incredible, other worldly looking place to explore.
