Description
This print captures the popular pink lake photo spot of Lake MacDonnell. The lake’s colour comes from high salt concentration and algae, and it changes constantly. An aerial view will show a stronger colour than what you can see from eye level. The strongest pinks usually appear in warmer months, especially late spring through summer, when evaporation increases salinity. Calm conditions and low sun angles — early morning or late afternoon — bring out the richest tones and reduce surface glare. Recent rainfall can soften the colour, while extended dry periods intensify it. Light cloud can actually help, muting reflections and allowing the pinks to deepen. Timing matters here. Same place, completely different look depending on season and light.
