Description

Description

The Illawarra region of NSW runs along the coast south of Sydney, covering areas like Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama, and is defined by the Illawarra Escarpment rising sharply behind the shoreline. That escarpment holds pockets of warm-temperate rainforest where tree ferns, dense understorey and creek gullies thrive, especially after rain. A big part of the region is national park and reserve country, including places like Royal National Park (at the northern end), Dharawal National Park, Budderoo National Park and Minnamurra Rainforest, with short walks to waterfalls, lookouts and ferny creek tracks.
