Description
Wollomombi Falls is one of those lesser known gems along the Waterfall Way road trip. It’s just a short detour off the highway near Armidale, with an easy walk from the picnic area to the lookout. The land disappears into a huge gorge and there are various lookouts depending on how far you want to walk. The falls plunge around 220 m overall (with a single drop of about 100 m), making it one of the biggest waterfalls in NSW, especially impressive after rain when the gorge fills with mist and the sound carries. The night skies in the highlands are insanely clear. At this time of the year the milky way was set to rise right above the falls, so I braved the cold and returned for the stunning night sky.
